From Martha Nussbaum

The parameter "US-THEM" seen in the text of Nussbaum can be used not only for a critical reflection about American values related to blind patriotism and radical positions beyond the national borders. It serves also to think in cultural stereotypes that are consolidated by the lack of information from "them" (the other, that basically is "us") and the lack of opportunity to know peoples realities without the dependence of sight abroad.

Grito negro (José Craveirinha, Mozambique)

I have a Question...don´t you ?

Actually, I have many questions and I would like to hear from you, starting here that desirable intercultural dialogue...
Are there possible answers or different questions related to our latest days topic?

Here are mine:

Is the idea of Global Citizenship as global as globalization?

How is it possible to extend this concept worldwide considering our sociocultural global diversity?

See you!

Where is charity?

... in a smile of understanding and tolerance, in kindness to strangers; in attention to the talker, in respect of the confidences of a friend, in respect to the habits and the scars of the other...

People everywhere see red and green and yellow and blue. Still there are also people born congenitally blind everywhere; and there are tetrachromats, who see more colors than the rest of us, and people with various kinds of color blindness, who see fewer. In what sense, then, is it true that human color vision is universal?

The effect of education on democratisation: A review of past literature and suggestions for a globalised context

By Ryan Wells (University of Iowa, IA, USA) in Globalisation, Societies and Education, Volume 6, Issue 2 2008 , pages 105 – 117

Abstract

Democratisation is an important component of current globalisation trends, and education is commonly thought to lead to greater democratisation. Thus, education holds a prestigious place in political development discourses. Are policies that promote this belief grounded in research-based evidence, or simply the propagation of institutionalized myths? This study reviews the literature concerning education's effect on democratisation. Ultimately, the evidence is inconclusive, and cannot justifiably be used to support an education-democratisation link at the national level. Therefore, this review concludes with a call for a revitalized research effort concerning education and democratisation that uses new approaches to account for a newly globalised context.

Keywords: democratisation; political development; educational research

Segue o seco

So, being a global citizen is also to exchange culture. Marisa Monte is one of my favourite Brazilian singers. In this song she talks about the rain in a place of our country where is very dry (called "Sertão") and people don´t have water. And the song brings also regional sounds mixed with Berimbau, an instrument from Capoeira. I holp you enjoy it!

My humanity and yours

My humanity is bound up in yours, for we can only be human together. — Desmond Tutu

Pessoas e capitais

“La nueva economia es una economia global en la que el éxito de una nación depende de su capacidad para constituirse en un modo atracivo para las redes globales de capital y personas. [...] La nueva sociedad es baseada en multiculturalismo y multietnicismo. El multiculturalismo es una rica fuente de crecimiento económico y culturale”.

knowledge & ignorance in a global world

"We live in a globalized world where much too often, more knowledge also means more ignorance. It is a world where those who are born today have more things to learn, and where those who grow old have more difficulties to understand. In this globalized world, we are increasingly aware of our common destiny, yet at the same time, we continue to wish that others understand us in what makes us unique, in what makes us singular".

Let´s think about it!

"Quality education must not only open doors to careers; it must open up minds and hearts".
